Understanding Low Vision

Low Vision is the term for impaired or lost vision that cannot be corrected with ordinary lenses or even surgery.

If you or a loved one has low vision, you are not alone.   For 10 million Americans, including more that 50,000 partially sighted and legally blind people in the Dallas area, low vision casts a despairing shadow over life.  For those coping with vision loss, "normal life" no longer seems normal.  Everyday activities present new challenges, from cooking to grocery shopping, reading email to recognizing friends' faces, crossing town to crossing streets.  In order to maintain independence and self-esteem, life with low vision requires a new approach.

Low vision diagnosis is the first step toward making the most of your remaining vision.  Dr. Don Wilhelmus, low vision specialist, will help you understand and adapt to low vision so you or your loved one can see more, be more independent, and experience more of life.
